As Muslims across the globe come together to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan, we cannot forget the millions of children whose celebrations are mired by the horrific destruction of war, natural disaster and other hardships.

Türkiye was already home to the largest refugee population in the world. Then, last month’s deadly 7.8 magnitude earthquake displaced thousands of child refugees for the second time. This year, their Ramadan will be filled with recovery efforts in the aftermath of the disaster.

The devastating earthquake also affected neighboring Syria, where 12 years of civil war had already created a humanitarian crisis. As families around the world gather to break fast during Ramadan, Syrian children continue to face violence and displacement.

More than eight years of conflict and severe economic decline is driving the children of Yemen to the brink of famine. This Ramadan, Yemeni children are fighting for their futures – and for the future of Yemen itself.
