Search House
"Register of Deeds 'On Track' with Tract Indexing Project"

The Macomb County Clerk's Office is working on a solution to an age-old problem relating to real estate documents.

According to Chief Deputy Register of Deeds Jennifer Walker, ?Because recording requirements are based on names it can be difficult to find documents related to a specific piece of property. Complete property information is not always available or accurate on the documents we receive.?

"Many times, residents must perform multiple searches tracing ownership to find documents related to a single piece of property."

The solution is a project called "The Tract Index."

"Deputy Walker has put together a team that will be able to pull together all related data for a particular piece of property," explained County Clerk Anthony G. Forlini. "With all property information linked together, it will eliminate the confusion. It's a concept Jennifer calls the 'Property Spine.'"

"Macomb County, the third largest county in the state, currently records about 160,000 documents each year and stores over 9 million records in our free online search system," Walker added.

?This solution will immediately benefit all users that need to find real estate documents, including Macomb County residents and real estate related businesses. Also, six County departments and our local municipalities that depend on our records will find the project invaluable. We're literally improving how our government works."
