Calling is the most important thing you can do. We have a script.

Friend –

Thank you again for advocating with us to stop mass face surveillance in California. We have one more ask that could make the difference in this fight.

Politicians pay the most attention to phone calls. If we can make their district lines ring from now until Tuesday, before AB 642 is heard in committee, then we can kill the bill. Call this number to be connected to your Assemblymember, or another key target.

CALL NOW: 1-919-899-1504

We have a script you can use:

"Hi, my name is _________, calling from _________. I want to urge Assemblymember ________ to protect my civil rights by voting NO on AB 642.

AB 642 claims to limit face surveillance, but in reality endangers Black people and Latinos who already are subject to overpolicing and racial profiling. It also could be exploited by out-of-state agencies to record the movements of immigrants and people who come to California seeking abortion and gender-affirming care.

I also want to ask the Assemblymember to support AB 1034, which reimposes a ban on face surveillance on police body cameras. Police body cameras were intended for officer accountability, not mass surveillance."

Thank you for being with us – we count on our members to be our partners in defending civil rights.

Let's stop this thing – face surveillance has no place in a healthy democracy.

Thanks for taking action,

Carlos Marquez III
