Prince William County Government Purchases Facility on Worth Avenue

*PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA*??? [ [link removed] ]Prince William County government participated in a live bid auction process on March 22, 2023, to acquire 14011 and 14041 Worth Avenue in Woodbridge, Virginia. The county was the winning bidder at $15.2 million, purchasing the 155,309 square-foot building constructed in 1996 on 12.51 acres of land.

The county had a lease agreement for the space previously occupied by Gander Mountain to house the county?s new Crisis Receiving Center and Department of Community Services. The other half of the building is currently occupied by Floor & Decor, which will continue to lease the space for the duration of its agreement.

The acquisition of the building ensures that the Crisis Receiving Center will be able to remain at the site for years beyond the 11-year lease it signed with the current owner. By purchasing the property, the county now has the assurance that the investment of $18 million in build-out expenses related to the Crisis Receiving Center space will not have to be duplicated after 11 years, ultimately resulting in cost savings.

The investment in the Crisis Receiving Center addresses the county?s commitment to the well-being of people experiencing a behavioral health crisis in the county. The walk-in center will have 16 beds for adults experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis who need intervention and 23 recliners where people can receive assessment and treatment for up to 23 hours. The Crisis Receiving Center will also help divert people from the criminal justice system. The facility is on schedule to open in 2024.

On Thursday, March 23, 2023, the county will remit a nonrefundable earnest money deposit in the amount of $1,000,000, and the purchase and sale of the property will occur on or before 45 days after the approval date.
