** Welcome to the March edition of The Moran Minuteman.

This monthly newsletter is our way of recognizing extraordinary efforts in Texas Congressional District 1 and providing an inside look into what happens behind the scenes in the life of a Congressman.

Everyday when I enter the Capitol Washington, DC, instead of using the tunnels to get to my office I come straight up the public steps. This is a small reminder that this office doesn’t belong to me but to the people of East Texas. I am honored to represent you and our shared conservative values each and every day.


** Congratulations to our First Minuteman - The Late Johnny Horne
------------------------------------------------------------

When I think of East Texans, I think of the Minutemen of the Revolutionary War ([link removed]) . Loyal to country and community, dependable, selfless, and ready at a moment’s notice, the Minutemen were American heroes who helped turn the tide of the Revolutionary War. Today’s East Texans reflect those traits. You are patriotic, dependable, and deeply committed to making our communities better.

Each month, I plan to recognize an East Texan who has gone above and beyond in serving our region - someone who epitomizes the identity of a Minuteman. In addition to recognition in the monthly newsletter, we will send the person a Moran Minuteman t-shirt.

This month’s Minuteman, the Late Johnny Horne, owned and operated Cajun Tex restaurant in Marshall. According to Elizabeth Cook, who nominated him, Johnny would stop and help anyone at a moment’s notice. He was known to build wheelchair ramps and donate to local causes and fundraisers anytime there was a need. I only met Johnny briefly when we stopped at his restaurant, but I can say he was friendly, and, of course, served delicious food. I recently visited Johnny’s wife, Mrs. Donna Horne, to give her the news.

We had a great conversation, and we look forward to returning soon to give her a Minuteman gift in Johnny’s memory.

He had a huge heart that loved his community, and he wanted to help in all ways that he could.
