Easter is a special time for Prison Fellowship®, not only because of the importance of Jesus’ resurrection, but because of a tradition that started with our founder, Chuck Colson.
We're celebrating a man who was a prisoner, who died on a cross, then went into a tomb that could not contain Him. Where better to celebrate than in the tomb of society? If Jesus were preaching today, He would be among the poor and outcast in society. And that's the man who transformed our lives.
–Chuck Colson
Every year, Chuck would share the message of the Resurrection behind bars.
This is a tradition we continue to follow today with our Easter Hope Events. A Prison Fellowship Hope Event® features
speakers, musicians, and other inspirational guests, and prisoners find respite from the challenges of prison life and a safe place to encounter Christ—many for the first time. These events are the perfect opportunity to share the hope and unconditional love found in Christ through His death and resurrection. There is no better time than Easter to reach men and women behind bars with the Good News of our Lord and Savior.
People are so hungry for hope in here, and that’s what you bring. Prison Fellowship brings the Word into this place. So many people walk out here all depressed, and all they see are the fences and barbed wire. But because of Jesus I can see past it. I can see the mountains in the distance. And I can thank Him for giving me life, that I might know Him and give Him glory. That’s why we’re here.
