We?re excited to provide an update about the highly productive legislative session and take your questions.
District 61 Town Hall March 29, 2023
There is a lot of good news to report from the Capitol. In my new role as House Majority Leader, I?ve had the honor of leading a team that is delivering for the people of Minnesota, and we?re just getting started! Here is a preview of what we?ll discuss at our March 29 town hall.?
What we?ve already accomplished:
Reproductive freedom. Universal school meals. Driver?s Licenses for All. Restore the Vote. 100% clean energy by 2040. Those are just a handful of the many wins this DFL trifecta has delivered for the people of Minnesota so far this year. The era of gridlock is over and this new Legislature has moved swiftly to enact the priorities of Minnesotans that were held up for years under divided government.?
Here is a sampling of news headlines from the past several months.
Driver's Licenses for All
PRO Act
100% by 2040
CROWN Act
Universal school meals
Restore the Vote
What comes next:
The state budget we will enact this year is more than a fiscal document ? it is a moral document that should reflect Minnesotans? values. Minnesotans care about their families, neighbors, and communities, and want our state to work better for everyone. Democrats are united around the values Minnesotans share. We have been listening to Minnesotans and we are drawing on thousands of face-to-face conversations we?ve had with people at their doors, listening tours, and town hall meetings over the course of years.?
Just this week, on March 21, the House Speaker, Senate Majority Leader, and Governor Walz reached an agreement on a framework for a new state budget [ [link removed] ]. The DFL trifecta reached this milestone thanks to unprecedented efficiency and cooperation, which is exactly what Minnesotans expect and deserve from their elected leaders. Work in legislative committees is winding down, and chairs will now be hard at work assembling their respective budget bills. Beginning in April, committee work will conclude and each chamber will pass budget bills off the floor.
