Dear John, We are in the midst of a biodiversity crisis. In Maine, the number of species listed as endangered is growing. The leading causes of this decline: habitat loss and habitat degradation. Together with our partners in Maine’s Environmental Priorities Coalition, we’re working to advance a new bill this legislative session to protect endangered and threatened species habitat in Maine – LD 1246, “An Act to Include Endangered and Threatened Species Habitat in the Definition of ‘Significant Wildlife Habitat’ Under the Natural Resources Protection Act.”1 We need to act now to protect as many species as we can from extinction.
