John,
It’s been just over a year since we elected representation for Mainers that puts the people’s priorities first. In that time, Jared has been all across our district, listening to the challenges facing working families and talking to folks at more than 100 different local events.
Because of you, we’re making sure that every day in Washington is spent fighting for Mainers -- and January has been no exception. John, take a moment to read the update below on just a few of the exciting things Jared has accomplished this month.
Fighting for Maine’s Lobster Industry
This month, Jared joined members of the Maine delegation in advocating for the success and sustainability of Maine’s lobster businesses -- which have been hurt by President Trump’s ongoing trade war with China. In a letter to a top trade representation, Jared and his fellow Maine leaders emphasized the importance of holding China accountable to its commitment to buy American lobster.
Investing in Quality Public Education
No matter where they live, all children deserve access to talented teachers in the classroom. To ensure Maine students in every community can receive a quality education, Jared backed bipartisan legislation to bring more promising teachers to rural areas of the state. These grants will help guarantee that children in both urban and rural communities are given the best opportunities and resources to learn, grow, and invest in their futures.
Cleaning up PFAS Water Contamination
More than 30,000 outbreaks of PFAS contamination have been reported at hundreds of sites across Maine, putting families at risk of consuming unsafe drinking water. These “forever chemicals” must be removed from water sources, which is why Jared voted to pass legislation that will stop the production of dangerous PFAS chemicals and work to clean up contaminated areas.
Working to Strengthen Unions
In Congress, Jared has led a group of 76 members to push for the passage of the PRO Act -- a bill that would give labor unions greater negotiating power and expand protections for workers. If passed, the bipartisan legislation would be the most wide-reaching bill to bolster the strength of American unions in decades.
Gaining Momentum on the Campaign Trail
As the race for 2020 heats up, Jared has continued to build a strong coalition of grassroots supporters and advocacy partners. In January, our campaign gained endorsements from both End Citizens United -- the nation’s largest organization dedicated to getting big money out of politics -- and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund -- which fights to protect access to comprehensive reproductive health care. |
