OnlyFans: A "Safe" Alternative?

OnlyFans is a subscription-based website, primarily used and known for pornographic content, where “creators” can market their content to “fans” who will pay to see it.

It is sometimes argued that OnlyFans is a "safe" alternative to pornography tube sites, like Pornhub and Xvideos. Particularly as Pornhub has come under fire for hosting and distributing filmed child sexual abuse, rape, sex trafficking, and other image-based sexual abuse, some are pointing to OnlyFans as "the answer."

However, the truth is that OnlyFans has also been exposed for hosting illegal and abusive content (This has even been covered by high profile media outlets like the BBC). Survivors, whistleblowers, police, and investigative journalists have uncovered child sexual abuse material, sex trafficking, rape videos, and a host of other crimes on this purportedly "safe" platform.

Our Messages In The News

Part of advocating for solutions to end sexual exploitation includes educating and engaging the public through media. Too often these issues don't get the attention they deserve, but we are pushing them to the front page! Check out some recent coverage of NCOSE in the news:

New York Post: Coverage of the recent Netflix documentary on Pornhub, quoting Dani Pinter's (NCOSE) comments about failures in moderation practices. The article also quotes a former Pornhub content moderator who admitted “You can’t tell the age of somebody — they could be 14 or they could be 19. We would have to guess."

Forbes: NCOSE's support of a bipartisan bill to make it "mandatory for online platforms to report imminent or suspected child exploitation and sexual abuse material; today, this is required only for known instances of such crimes."

BBC: Discussing NCOSE's conversations with survivors who are accusing the prominent influencer Andrew Tate of sex trafficking, and the online harassment they have faced. Dani Pinter (NCOSE) shared: "They're scared to death. They're both in hiding. They feel they can't settle anywhere, because people are trying to find them." We were also briefly quoted in a Rolling Stone article regarding Andrew Tate.

Urge Congress to Pass Child Protection Legislation this Congressional Session!

Despite much talk, the last Congress (2021-22) passed NO significant child protection legislation. It is time for Congress to step up to protect our children online.

Please help us call on Congress to support the following bipartisan bills:

► SCREEN Act: requires pornography websites to verify the age of viewers to protect children from exposure to hardcore pornography and the negative impacts it has on their development

► EARN IT Act: gives victims of child sexual abuse material (aka child pornography) the right to sue digital platforms that circulate this criminal content and a chance to restore their privacy

► KIDS ONLINE SAFETY Act: creates a legally relevant “duty of care” requiring online apps and platforms to center the needs of children; requires more social media safeguards for children; and provides parents with tools to protect kids

► PROTECT Act: requires pornography websites to verify the age and consent of individuals depicted in sexually explicit material to prevent the circulation of child sexual abuse material

It is time our children become a priority for Congress.
