Thank Assemblymember Matt Haney for outlawing NIMBY shenanigans

San Francisco Assemblymember Matt Haney has introduced state legislation that will speed up housing by removing delays from post-approval entitlements. As Heather Knight reported, San Francisco is the only city that allows one person to tie up housing projects in red tape for years, even after it’s approved, by contesting the various building permits, like a demolition permit, a street closure permit, and a tree removal permit. AB 1114 will stop legal maneuvers that NIMBYs abuse to drag out construction and convince builders to compromise or walk away from the project.

Tell Supervisors: the fees are too damn high

San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors will consider lowering city-imposed fees (known as “exactions”) on new housing projects. A newly-published analysis from the San Francisco Controller's Office shows that removing these exactions is the single most effective action SF can take right now to make it more financially feasible to build desperately needed housing for residents. Costs are too high right now and home builders are taking their business elsewhere; let’s lower costs to attract builders and get abundant housing. Our pre-populated letter takes less than five minutes to write and send!
