Tomorrow, members of the New Orleans City Council will yet again be determining the future of the city. Will people be allowed to stay here, or will they cave to speculators who want to turn the city into an open air hotel?
Make your voice heard — you canemail city council. You can submit public comment. Or you can show up in person at 10am to City Hall (1300 Perdido Street) to counter the landlords who will be crying for their right to continue to abuse our city's housing stock, to gentrify our neighborhoods, and to replace New Orleans' culture with their own. If you're looking for inspiration beyond your own experiences watching your neighbors being displaced, members of Jane Place have put together resources to guide your public comments. For many the fight has turned into a debate about density restrictions that were introduced earlier this month. We want to be clear: New Orleans DSA is still calling for an outright ban on all Short Term Rentals.
We've said it before and we'll say it again — housing is a human right. Housing policies of the city should prioritize the needs of working class people who want to live here, not an owner class who has again and again shown indifference to our needs in pursuit of their individual profits.
Hope to see you out tomorrow!

Then this Saturday, March 25th at 12 noon — join us for our March General Meeting. We'll be meeting at the First Unitarian Universalist Church at 2903 Jefferson Ave, or online via zoom (registration here). Hope to see you there!
Solidarity forever,
DSA New Orleans Local Council
New to DSA? Check out our chapter's new member resources here. If you've got any questions about how to get involved or the work our chapter is doing, give us a shout at [email protected].
Not yet a member? The most important tool that the working class has is organization. We're strong when we fight together. We have to build a durable, mass political organization to wield the kind of power we need to win real change in our society. If you aren't a dues-paying member of DSA yet, join today!
