Here are some updates from yesterday.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) signed 12 election bills into law. These bills include Senate Bill 139, which imposes a strict residency requirement to vote, and House Bill 1165, which bans drop boxes in the state. [link removed]

The Ohio Republican Party asked to intervene in a lawsuit to defend Ohio voter suppression law House Bill 458. The law severely restricts the types of IDs acceptable for voting, limits mail-in voting and more. [link removed]

Mi Familia Vota (MFV), a Latino civic engagement group, asked to intervene in a lawsuit brought by conservative groups seeking stricter signature matching requirements for mail-in ballots in Arizona. MFV argues that the lawsuit's claims "threaten to deprive election officials of a critical tool to count each citizen’s vote accurately and securely." [link removed]

Here are some other updates you may have missed.

On Monday, North Carolina Republicans introduced House Bill 396, which would repeal the state’s authorization to participate in the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), a nonprofit organization that allows states to share information to help maintain accurate voter rolls. On Thursday, March 9, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) signed a bill reducing the size of Nashville’s Metro Council by half and requiring other restructuring. Last week, the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County filed a lawsuit alleging that this law violates multiple provisions of the Tennessee Constitution, including Tennessee’s Home Rule Amendment.
