I’ll be honest, John: this is a long, wonky email. But as one of my top supporters, I want to be transparent with you about where things stand in our district.

In 2022, we flipped this seat BLUE for the first time in nearly 50 years. Even though we won soundly, our district’s Partisan Voting Index is still D+1, which means we’re well within the bounds of being a swing seat. We cannot rely on past performance alone to carry us to victory in 2024.

Leaders on both sides of the aisle agree that MI-03 will be a battleground district. We’re on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s Frontline list and the Republican National Campaign Committee’s list of top targets. Everyone knows that this seat could determine control of the House of Representatives, so no one is willing to leave anything to chance.

Our first FEC quarterly filing deadline of 2023 is coming up at the end of this month. This is our first chance of the year to show our would-be opponents that we have a strong campaign ready for whatever attacks come our way. Early fundraising also allows us to invest in crucial campaign resources so that we have a strong foundation before the election year starts.
