I’m the only Democrat in the U.S. Senate race in California who has never
taken a dime of corporate PAC money and doesn’t take contributions from
lobbyists. Here’s the story behind it.
A few years ago I attended a reception for newly elected Members in DC. A
lobbyist came up to me and said "Well, I guess you’re one of the new
Members we’ll never see." I asked him why. He said it was because I didn’t
take corporate PAC money.
Since that day, I’ve said clearly -- if lobbyists want to meet with me,
they better bring their good ideas, not their checkbooks. There are
lobbyists for organizations like Progressive Change and Planned Parenthood
who I’m happy to work with and learn from. I've partnered with the PCCC on
many issues important to families and working people. But no matter who
you are lobbying for, I’m proud to prove that I won’t be swayed by your
check.
As Members of Congress, we’re privileged to be in positions of power, and
we should use our power to stand up to the status quo and corporate
special interests.
Californians deserve to know that their Senator works for them. Whether
it’s using my whiteboard to hold Wall Street CEOs accountable or passing
legislation to prevent Big Pharma from raising prices, I’m proud to fight
for working people.
Our campaign is funded by real, working people, and our average
contribution this week is $31. I rely on supporters like you chipping in
to keep our campaign afloat.
