Historic vote on the NO BAN ACT announced!

Historic vote on the NO BAN Act announced.

Dear Friend,

I just finished a long day on Capitol Hill, where we helped members of Congress make a historic announcement for our community: The House of Representatives will hold a vote on the NO BAN Act to stop the Muslim Ban and ensure this never happens again.

We believe this is the first time any bill to vindicate the rights of American Muslims will get a vote in Congress. Ever.

It has not been an easy path, but when American Muslims have a seat at the table with our allies and policymakers, we get results.

  • Together with allied members of Congress, the NO BAN Act was introduced last April.
  • Because of our work leading the broad NO BAN Act coalition in partnership with civil rights and faith groups, hundreds of co-sponsors have joined the bill.
  • Because of our coalition work in support of the Muslim ban hearing, Farhana Khera and our client, Muslim Ban victim Ismail Alghazali, testified directly to Congress about the harm of the Muslim Ban.
  • Because of the pressure from you, from congressional allies like Reps. Chu, Jayapal, Omar, Rose, Nadler, Lofgren, Tlaib, Beyer and Carson, and Senators Coons, Durbin, Hirono and Blumenthal, and from our coalition, Speaker Pelosi finally announced that the House will vote on this bill.

Our work to fight this ban is rightly focused on the tragic stories of separated families. And today is no different. We supported a press conference organized by Senator Chris Coons, the original Senate sponsor of the NO BAN Act, with members of Congress, civil rights allies, and people who are impacted by the ban, including Danah Harbi, an American who has to move to Lebanon to be with her fiance’ because he was born in Syria. The NO BAN Act is about Danah and the countless Americans like her who are cruelly being denied access to their own families.

Below are a series of photos and videos with highlights of today’s announcement. In the coming weeks, we will need your help to make sure the House passes this bill.

And, tomorrow, we’ll be in court in Richmond, Virginia as our case against the Muslim Ban, IAAB v. Trump, gets a hearing in the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals.

We’ll update you on how that goes but thank you being a part of Muslim Advocates. Without you, none of this is possible.

Thank you,

Naheed Qureshi
