JOHN,
As usual, our government overlords are trying to weasel their way into our everyday lives and invade any shred of privacy we have left. Even in the Great Smoky Mountains, America’s most popular national park, we’re witnessing a HUGE overstep.
It’s been reported that Automatic License Plate Readers (ALPRs) were installed in two different locations at the park. After the story sparked concern, the park removed one at the Sugarlands Visitor Center—but the Townsend entrance ALPR remains.
Let’s cut to the chase and call this what it is…
These are cameras that are gathering details about you and your whereabouts WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT. Who has access to the data? Where are they using this information? What is the whole dadgum point of this alarming addition to our treasured national park?
I know folks who travel through the Smokies every day and they deserve better, which is exactly why I wrote a letter to the National Park Service demanding answers. There’s no place for this overreach. Every ALPR should be thrown out, never to see the light of day.
Can I count on your support as I stand up for our right to privacy?
Sincerely,
Tim Burchett
