Friend, three years ago this month, the World Health
Organization declared COVID-19 a public health emergency. The pandemic amplified
preexisting fractures in our society, especially within the healthcare system,
which systemically excludes millions of low-income immigrants from accessing the
care they need.
To make matters worse, Trump’s public charge rule went into effect just weeks
before the pandemic hit the U.S.
As a reminder, Trump wanted to prevent low-income immigrants from becoming
lawful permanent residents if they used public benefits, like SNAP or Medicaid,
so he expanded the existing public charge rule. His "wealth test” sowed
confusion and fear in our communities, ultimately deterring immigrants and their
loved ones from accessing critical nutrition, health care, and housing programs.
Though Trump’s public charge rule is long gone, and our country is on its path
to recovery from the pandemic, we know that many immigrants are still afraid to
apply for health coverage and other benefits. That’s why we are sharing a few resources to help people navigate their
questions and concerns about applying for health insurance programs or seeking
health care services.

No one should fear accessing life-saving health care and economic support, and
that’s why it’s critical that our communities have accurate, up-to-date
information. Friend, help us share our resources by forwarding this
email to your friends and family today.
Thank you for helping us ensure that all people can access the care they need.
