Team — I need your help. In case you missed it, today, the Supreme Court allowed President Trump’s public charge immigration rule to go into effect. This rule is not only deemed illegal by groups like the ACLU, but it is also a direct attack on our community. Our beloved district (NY-9) - one of the most diverse communities in the United States - has been in the crosshairs of Trump’s racist and xenophobic agenda. I was born and raised in this community, and as the daughter of Jamaican immigrants, this is personal to me. This is personal to all of us. As your Congresswoman, I have fought tirelessly since day one against oppressive policies that harm and threaten our beloved immigrant communities. I will continue to boldly fight for those seeking the American dream in central Brooklyn and beyond. But to keep fighting, we need to show the President and the Supreme Court that we will not tolerate these attacks on our friends, family, and neighbors.
Children are being separated from their parents and forced to represent themselves in courts. Our government is taking it upon themselves to determine who “deserves” to immigrate to the United States. The immigration crisis has come to a head, and it is on us to join the fight and speak out on behalf of our friends and neighbors.
Thank you,
