Introducing New KCYD Chair!

Hey all,

After an exciting special election, Maliq Phakdymanivong joins our Executive Board as Chair of King County Young Democrats. Please take a moment to learn about Maliq:


Maliq graduated from the University of Washington in 2021 with a degree in Political Science. He also studied Entrepreneurship and launched his own company at the beginning of his senior year. Along with his studies, Maliq cultivated his passion for videography and graphic design by volunteering for a local football training facility, eventually becoming the facility's Director of Media Production.

Maliq started his journey in politics in high school by participating in the Junior State of America, where he eventually was elected to represent the Inland Empire Region of the Pacific Northwest State as Mayor. After graduating from UW, Maliq decided to turn his passion for politics into a career and joined a local Seattle campaign as their Field Organizer and Digital Media Manager. Maliq now works as a legislative aide where he researches policy, manages communications, and is the point of contact for constituents. His goal by the end of his career is to know that he was able to open the door for underrepresented folks to the world of politics and local government.

KCYD General Meeting


Our first meeting of the year will be on Friday, March 31st at 6:00pm. It will be a hybrid meeting with the in-person attendees meeting at Eastern Cafe (510 Maynard Ave S, Seattle, WA 98104). Light refreshments will be served and masks are encouraged. The agenda will be released 48 hours before the meeting. Please RSVP for the event here ([link removed]) by 11:59pm on Thursday, March 30th so that we can have an accurate attendance count.


Events To Look Forward To

Lobby Day (Olympia, WA) - Thursday, March 28th

YDWA/CDWA Lobby Day (in person) will be March 28th in Olympia! We would love to have you. All levels of experience are welcome. YDWA/CDWA will also be having virtual days around this for meeting with certain legislators who can't attend in-person.

YDWA Convention (Spokane, WA) - Friday, May 19th to Sunday, May 21st

Every year the chapters of the Young Democrats of Washington gather for Convention. YDWA offers a schedule of events jam-packed with workshops, panels, and info sessions. Attendees also have fun getting to hang out for the weekend, and enjoy hearing speakers from throughout the political world!

YDA Convention (Las Vegas, NV) - Sunday, June 18th to Wednesday, June 21st

The Young Democrats of Washington are excited to be going to Las Vegas for the 2023 Young Democrats of America National Convention from June 18-21, 2023. The host hotel will be the MGM Grand right in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip.
