Greetings!
Monday marked the important crossover deadline, leaving us with 20 days before the legislature adjourns. It has been a great session so far with several of our priority bills headed for final passage, and others awaiting important votes in the final days of session. We are grateful to you for all of your support! When we asked, you answered – together, we sent thousands of emails to legislators from their constituents asking them to pass important legislation.
At a time when legislatures around the country are passing inhumane legislation and criminalizing gender affirming care for trans and gender diverse people, Maryland just expanded Medicaid coverage for gender affirming care, AND we fought off harmful amendments that would have banned gender affirming care for youth. Thank you for helping us defeat those amendments!
There’s still more work to do! Several important bills have passed one chamber but haven’t received a vote on the other side. Help these bills get through the final weeks of session by sending an email to your legislators in support of:
Unfortunately, some of our session priorities are not going to receive votes in committee. For the 13th year in a row, the House and Senate have failed to bring the YES Act to a vote. This bill would end the automatic charging of youth as adults. We will continue to advocate for this legislation. If you want to join a citizen advocacy committee for youth justice, please send us an email.
