Dear John, Governor Newsom has just announced that CalRx signed a contract with the manufacturer CIVICA to create affordable insulin in our own state of California. Through this plan, a vial of CalRx insulin will cost no more than $30. This will reduce insulin prices by 90%, saving cash-paying patients in California between $2,000 and $4,000 annually. Californians will not be required to get a new prescription and will be able to purchase the CalRx generic at their local pharmacy or via mail. No coupon or voucher is needed to access this price-- it's available to everyone regardless on an insurance plan. You can learn more about CalRX and its insulin initiative on the newly launched website. On his first day in office, Governor Newsom signed an executive order to bring down the cost of prescription drugs by leveraging California’s large market power. I am glad that he has kept this promise, as this will provide much-needed relief to diabetes sufferers across the state, particularly in low-income communities and communities of color. More work still needs to be done to increase accountability and transparency in healthcare and the pharmaceutical drug market. I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to make life-saving drugs affordable to all Americans. Sincerely, Mark Takano Member of Congress ‌ ‌ ‌ Rep.
