It brings me joy to greet you all as Ramadan arrives. On behalf of all of us at Muslim Advocates, we wish you, your families, and your communities the very best during this blessed month.
At Muslim Advocates, we are committed to our mission of building power and creating lasting change through impactful litigation, advocacy, and communications strategies. To achieve this goal, we speak to the full diversity of the Muslim experience in this country, supporting and amplifying frontline Muslim communities and organizations that are working to dismantle systemic oppression. When we leverage our common voices and collective action , we can build a future that is better and safer for everyone.
In line with the important work we do all year building power in Muslim communities and confronting discrimination, we’ll be here during Ramadan to support you and your loved ones. Muslim Advocates is hosting training sessions for anyone seeking religious accommodations for Ramadan and Eid. We are also distributing Know Your Rights materials and online videos designed to help anyone seeking Ramadan accommodations from schools, universities, jobs, or even jails and prisons.
Our work in defense of incarcerated Muslims is a core part of our mission. Over the past few years, we released a groundbreaking report detailing the overrepresentation of Muslims in state prisons. We sued a Kentucky prison and made it withdraw its punitive restrictions on group prayer. Last year, we teamed up with the ACLU of Virginia and got a Virginia prison to grant a Muslim man meals after sundown during Ramadan. And just last month, we asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the case of a Muslim man at a notorious Georgia prison who was prohibited from performing ghusl and protecting his bodily modesty.
We believe justice means that we all have the unrestricted opportunity to participate in civic life with dignity and safety. We will continue to fight for those whose rights are threatened by anti-Muslim targeting in all of its forms, whether through discriminatory policing, surveillance, or other government overreach.
