General Counsel Hiring Update

Please join us in welcoming OAH's new General Counsel,?*Elizabeth?Stawicki.?*

Elizabeth returns to Minnesota state government following a legal fellowship at Syracuse University?s College of Law, Syracuse, NY.? Prior to the fellowship, she served for more than seven years as legal counsel at the Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor (OLA) where she also co-authored several OLA special reviews.

Before OLA, Elizabeth was a national award-winning legal correspondent at Minnesota Public Radio.? She earned a Silver Gavel award from the American Bar Association for her coverage of Minnesota?s landmark tobacco trial, State of Minnesota & Blue Cross Blue Shield v. Philip Morris Inc.

Elizabeth earned a J.D. from the University of St. Thomas School of Law and a B.A. in journalism from the University of Minnesota. She was also a Knight-Wallace fellow at the University of Michigan.?

Elizabeth will begin her new role on March 29, 2023. She will be based at our St. Paul office.?



The General Counsel role

General Counsel is a new position at OAH. This role will:


* Provide executive-level legal work, direction, guidance, and strategic planning for all OAH legal activities;
* Perform legal research and analysis, provide legal advice to the OAH Executive Team, and make recommendations on legal action, including guidance related to court policies and procedures, data practices, legislation, and litigation management;
* Support OAH in the legislative process, including drafting and reviewing proposed legislation.
