John, the findings in the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) latest report couldn’t be any clearer:
There is still hope to secure a livable future, but only if world governments take immediate action to improve their current climate policies – especially when it comes to phasing out fossil fuels.1
The United States is the second biggest emitter of fossil fuels, which means we have a critical role to play in reversing this alarming trend and ensuring a future for us and our planet. President Biden holds the power to meet this moment with the urgency and seriousness it deserves by declaring a climate emergency.
By declaring a climate emergency, President Biden won’t just be paying lip service to our movement – he’ll be green lighting real, enforceable actions that will make all the difference in our fight for a sustainable future. That could include:
Plus, all of these actions would lead to millions of high-quality union jobs.
The good news is that the world already has the technology and the know-how to achieve its climate goals, and recent unprecedented investments in renewable energy have made it more affordable and more accessible.
But in order to end the era of fossil fuels, it's not enough to just power up justly sourced and justly implemented renewables – we also have to put a stop to fossil fuel emissions.
To push Biden to take the drastic climate action that's needed, we must be the loudest voice in the room. If we all band together, we can drown out the special interest groups, Big Oil lobbyists, and corporations that are keeping us on this path to destruction.
Together, we have the power to move leaders like President Biden to do what’s right for our planet. At this moment, that means declaring a climate emergency and taking immediate action to move away from fossil fuels.
Thank you,
Team 350
