Wolfs Crossing road improvements?
begin April 3

Phase 1 construction includes Devoe Drive and Wolfs Crossing closure

The Village of Oswego will kick off the first phase of the Wolfs Crossing improvement project on April 3. The Village has been planning for the expansion of Wolfs Crossing to a modern, four-lane road to help ease traffic congestion, improve safety and accommodate current and future growth.

Nearly half of the $10.2 million project cost comes from federal and state grant funds. The Village did not increase or impose any new taxes or incur any additional debt to fund the project. Developer impact fees will fund a portion of the project.

?We?re excited to launch this key infrastructure project to improve safety and help relieve congestion on Wolfs Crossing,? Village President Troy Parlier said. ?We?re proud that we were able to use grants and impact fees to fund a major portion of this first phase and ease the burden on our residents.?

In the first phase, Wolfs Crossing will be widened to four lanes from east of the entrance to Oswego East High School to east of Devoe Drive, and the four-way stop-controlled intersection of Wolfs Crossing and Harvey Road will be replaced by a modern roundabout.

This intersection was planned first because of its proximity to Oswego East High School, the need to improve bus access and its current traffic volume.

Work will begin on April 3 with the closure of Wolfs Crossing between Harvey Road and Route 30 for work at the intersection of Devoe Drive and Wolfs Crossing. Devoe Drive at Wolfs Crossing will be closed until approximately the end of May. Detours will be posted along the route. Construction updates and detour information can be found on the Village?s website. Residents can also get updates by signing up for traffic alerts through the Village?s email bulletin.

The Village has closely coordinated this work with Oswego East High School administrators to minimize impacts while also recognizing the goal to complete the project in one construction season.?Additional closures around Wolfs Crossing and Harvey Road are expected to begin after the school year ends in late May.

Construction will continue until the project is completed at the end of November. ?

The Village has been planning for the widening of Wolfs Crossing for many years. The Wolf Corridor Advisory Team studied current and projected traffic demands, evaluated road improvement scenarios and sought public input. The advisory team recommended the roundabout design as the most effective and safest way to manage traffic through the corridor. The project also includes bike and pedestrian improvements, as well as construction of a new water main from Fifth Street to Devoe Drive to improve water pressure on the east side of the Village.?
