Dear john,
This past weekend, I joined a bipartisan, bicameral Congressional Delegation led by U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) to Mexico. We met with Mexican government officials and discussed relevant matters that will help strengthen our relationship with our southern neighbor.
I remain committed to a strong, bilateral collaboration between our two nations.

Our Congressional Delegation and U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar met with the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and his cabinet at the National Palace in Mexico City.
|
One of the key issues our delegation discussed with President López Obrador was the flow of illegal drugs between the United States and Mexico. Together, we can be more effective in fighting drug trafficking - especially lethal drugs like fentanyl - between our borders and save both American and Mexican lives. Thank you, President López Obrador, for hosting us.
|
I also met with Mexican Secretary of Defense, General Luis Cresencio Sandoval Gonzalez. I look forward to working with you on defense matters affecting our region.
|
Our Congressional Delegation also met with the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico (AmCham). Being from the border, I understand very well the importance of trade with our southern neighbors. Strengthening our business partnerships with Mexico will lead to a more stable, reliable supply chain that will benefit American taxpayers.

I spoke in the “Building a Healthy Community Together” forum with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Texas A&M AgriLife’s Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture (IHA). Residents and community leaders gathered to hear community input and help ensure that the USDA’s science-based solutions on the topics of nutrition and diet-related chronic diseases are impactful and relevant to the communities they serve. I want to thank USDA Under Secretary for Research, Education and Economics and Chief Scientist Dr. Chavonda Jacobs-Young, Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp, TAMIU President Dr. Pablo Arenaz, the USDA, the Texas A&M system, and our community for their valuable input and commitment for a healthier South Texas.
