We should be working for public safety — not catering to the gun lobby.

Dick Durbin

John,

As Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I oversaw hearings on the impact of the Supreme Court’s Bruen decision — a ruling that has unleashed pure chaos with regards to our gun laws.

The GOP’s response? New legislation that would codify this backward decision into federal law.

Republicans in states across the country are already using Bruen to justify stripping gun safety measures. For example, judges in Texas are actually allowing domestic abusers to buy firearms.

When the Constitution was drafted, firearms were muskets — not modern assault weapons. I do not believe any of us can argue today’s environment is what our Founding Fathers had in mind.

The Senate should be working for public safety — not catering to the NRA and the gun lobby.

If you’re as outraged as I am, I need you standing with me. The Democratic majority will keep working to reform and strengthen our gun laws and fight the dangerous Republican efforts to enshrine a Supreme Court decision that the gun lobby called a “landmark win.” But we need supporters like you behind us. Will you rush in a contribution right now?

My best,

Dick Durbin
