John,

On this day in 2017, Donald Trump announced his racist, xenophobic, and
Islamophobic Muslim Ban, which aimed to ban travelers from Muslim-majority
countries from entering the United States. I remember it all too well -- I
was a city leader in Cincinnati at the time, dealing with the real impacts
of the ban on my constituents, neighbors, and friends whose family members
were literally trapped abroad, unable to enter the country. One especially
difficult story involved a very pregnant and nervous first-time mother,
suffering from the stress of potentially not having her parents, who were
en route to the U.S., at her bedside for the delivery. The risk to her
baby and to her mother, who was suffering hypertension in an unfamiliar
country, was far too real.

It’s one of the most disgraceful executive actions we’ve seen a U.S.
president take, keeping countless immigrant families and loved ones apart
in separate parts of the world.

Now, on the ban’s three-year anniversary, Trump revealed he’s planning to
expand the ban by adding seven more countries to it: Belarus, Myanmar,
Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria, Sudan, and Tanzania.

We blocked this ban from going into full effect the first time by
mobilizing at airport protests across the country and demanding the courts
step in to stop this blatantly discriminatory ban. We’ve got to do it
again if we want to stop Trump from getting away with this and hurting
even more people.

Immigrants should not be banned simply based on where they were born, and
those in this country who came from those nations on the list should not
be made to feel any less American because of this racist, xenophobe in
chief and his white nationalist advisor Stephen Miller.

Until we kick Trump out of office, it’s on us to continue to stand up
against dangerous policies like this one and stop them in their tracks.

Thanks for taking action,

-Yvette
