Since the U.S. Supreme Court took away our federal constitutional right to abortion, whether people can get this essential health care has been left up to each state.

With so many bills currently moving to restrict abortion in so many states, it can be hard to keep track of where abortion is still legal and what restrictions are actually in place.

So, we've updated our abortion access map to show you the current state of abortion in the U.S.

U.S. Map highlighting the 19 states with abortion bans. A closer look at abortion bans in the U.S.

Right now, bans have eliminated access to some or all abortions in 19 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

This time of year, most state legislatures are in session, so there's still time to fight for access in many states.

Here are some highlights — both good and bad — from our fights in the states:
TEXAS

Abortion access champions in the Texas House and Senate have introduced the Comprehensive Access to Reproductive Health Entities (C.A.R.E.) No Matter What Act to fight back against the state's decades-long attacks on patients' access to Planned Parenthood.

If passed, the C.A.R.E. No Matter What Act would restore a pathway for trusted community health providers like Planned Parenthood to access state and local health program funding. While this would not restore abortion access in Texas, it would mean more patients could access affordable reproductive health care, including contraception.

FLORIDA

On the first day of Florida's legislative session, lawmakers immediately set their sights on further restricting sexual and reproductive health care. A six-week abortion ban is rapidly advancing in both chambers.

Florida already banned abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy with no exceptions for rape or incest last year. If enacted, this new six-week ban would have an even more devastating impact as many people don't know they're pregnant at six weeks.

IDAHO

Abortion has been banned in Idaho since the summer. The Idaho House passed a bill to criminalize aiding a minor to travel to access an abortion out of state. If this bill becomes law, helpers could face prosecution, even if a young person's parents consented to the abortion.

Other states with hostile legislatures are also moving quickly to further restrict and ban access to abortion. We have to work together even harder to lay the groundwork to restore and expand abortion access in the future, build the movement, galvanize our supporters, name and hold those who oppose reproductive freedom accountable, and lift up the efforts of our champions who work to protect it.

We'll be in touch with more specific calls to action as these fights heat up. In the meantime, you can always find ways to make a difference at PlannedParenthoodAction.org.
