Too Few Older Adults Know About Medicare Savings Programs
The good news: More than 1.4 million Americans on Medicare may qualify for a program that can save them $1,900 in health care costs annually. The problem? They might not have heard of the support they’re entitled to. An AARP Policy Now video explains how the Medicare Savings Program can cover out-of-pocket expenses. Nurses are helping spread the word.
Nurses already have plenty of people tugging at their sleeves, but they can provide even more support for more people in the long run if they help other helpers—family caregivers. The AARP Public Policy Institute’s Valuing the Invaluable report focuses on family caregiving, the backbone of the long-term care system. Nurses can help by connecting people who aren’t as familiar with the health care system to the resources they need.
