We won’t let them undo the climate gains we’ve worked so hard to make
John, do you remember when Republicans were patting themselves on the back for those new clean energy jobs in their districts?
Yeah, so do we. But now, those same Republicans just unveiled legislation to repeal crucial pieces of the Inflation Reduction Act that are responsible for spurring these new jobs in the first place! In their sights are the methane emissions fee, the national “green bank,” and the funds to help low and moderate income households improve their home energy efficiency.
The bill also throws the doors wide open for oil and gas drilling all over federal lands while removing the ability for communities to be heard in the process.
The Republicans have designated this bill “H.R.1,” which signifies they think this is the most important bill they will introduce this Congress. But we prefer to call this bill what it really is: the “Polluters Over People Act.”
This new bill would derail President Biden’s climate agenda, John.
It doesn’t stand a chance against our Democratic majority in the Senate, but the takeaway here is clear: Republicans would rather reap the short-term wealth of using fossil fuels than take the necessary steps to protect our country from future climate devastation.
Not only have President Biden’s clean energy reforms helped us advance our clean energy goals — they’ve helped create more jobs and promoted domestic energy production. Congressional Republicans are just focused on the wrong kind of “green,” plain and simple.
