New Report Evaluates Federal Agencies’ Efforts to Promote Voting Access

On March 7, 2021, President Biden issued an Executive Order (EO) directing all federal agencies to evaluate opportunities to increase access to the ballot box. Two years later, on the 58th anniversary since the Bloody Sunday civil rights demonstration, Campaign Legal Center joined a diverse coalition of advocates in issuing a report to highlight the initial progress that has been made, and explain what actions still need to be taken to fulfill the EO’s promise.

“Strengthening Democracy: A Progress Report on Federal Agency Action to Promote Access to Voting” follows CLC’s ongoing advocacy to federal agencies in support of implementing the EO. The gaps and opportunities identified in the report impact any voter who interacts with a federal agency and have especially important implications for voters who are formerly or currently incarcerated.

CLC Explains: Valencia Richardson on Barriers To In-Person Voting

Communities of Black voters have been disproportionately harmed by these laws, like Caddo Parish in Louisiana, the hometown of CLC's Legal Counsel, Voting Rights Valencia Richardson. In this CLC Explains video, Valencia talks about removing barriers and increasing access to the polls.

CLC Seeks Investigations of FCC Officials’ Stock Trades

To maintain a government of, by and for the people, we must ensure that executive branch officials are using their power to benefit the American public, not their own financial interests. This is why CLC has filed a complaint with the FCC’s Inspector General concerning officials at that agency trading stocks in companies they are banned from trading under federal law.
