I’ll get straight to the point, because this is important: It’s long past time to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). As legislators, we have a responsibility to enshrine gender equality in our Constitution – to put women in our Constitution. That’s why I am an original cosponsor to ratify ERA.

Believe it or not, we’ve been waiting for ratification of the ERA for more than 50 years . I know civics class is in the past for many of us, but let me remind you of the requirements for a constitutional amendment:

1️⃣ Must be approved by two-thirds of Congress – the ERA passed this step in 1971.

2️⃣ Two-thirds of states (38) must ratify – Virginia became the 38th state to ratify in January 2020.

Last week I told you about my littlest, biggest inspirations – my grandchildren. I want them to grow up in a world where equal rights are the standard, and I imagine you want the same for your loved ones, too.
