Friend, after a tremendous year of climate progress for California in 2022, some legislators chose to lead the charge by authoring major climate bills, while others chose to sit out of the conversation by not supporting the majority of climate bills.

Despite the efforts of climate delayers in Sacramento, so many amazing representatives stepped up to push progressive environmental climate bills all the way through to the Governor’s desk.

When we release our California Environmental Scorecard each year, we highlight the most impactful climate action leaders as well as the most disappointing climate delayers into their own caucuses.

The members of the 2022 Polluter Caucus refused to support, and most even actively worked against, climate policy in 2022. Most of them claim to have climate and the environment at the top of their priority list, but will their actions speak louder than words in this new legislative session? Or will they continue to opt out of supporting major climate progress?

Let’s not forget about all 28 Republicans in the Senate and Assembly who earned a spot in the Polluter Caucus as well — each and every one of them got a 0% environmental score last year.

But thankfully, on the other side, we have leaders who walked the walk in 2022.

Assemblymembers Isaac Bryan, Cristina Garcia, Luz Rivas, and Phil Ting and Senators Ben Allen and John Laird each showed tremendous leadership and were instrumental in California improving its grade from a D to an A-.

We’d love if you took a moment to read more about their amazing accomplishments in our 2022 Environmental Scorecard>>
