Hi Friend, GOOD NEWS! This morning, President Joe Biden designated the Avi Kwa Ame National Monument in Southern Nevada, and we are so excited that the administration has decided to protect this sacred land. We’ve worked hard the last two years, alongside our incredible partners and Nevada’s tribes, to get to this moment and to see this land honored. I’m so lucky to be here in D.C. to see this designation happen! ICYMI: Avi Kwa Ame is considered sacred to ten Yuman-speaking tribes (the Fort Mojave, Hualapai, Yavapai, Havasupai, Quechan, Maricopa, Paipai, and Kumeyaay) as well as the Hopi and Chemehuevi Paiute. It’s also home to some of Nevada’s landmark species, like the desert bighorn and the desert tortoise — and to some of the oldest and largest Joshua trees on the planet, some rising to more than 30 feet over 900 years. With this designation, President Biden is telling Nevada’s tribes and residents that his administration respects our beautiful public lands, and will do everything they need to protect them. We’re so grateful to our Congressional Delegation, including Congresswoman Dina Titus who led the bill in Congress, for encouraging POTUS to protect Avi Kwa Ame!
