Did you know today is World Down Syndrome Day?
Down syndrome is one of the most common types of intellectual disabilities (ID), and today we raise awareness about the condition and advocate for acceptance. It’s a time to lift up and celebrate our athletes, friends, and loved ones who are living with Down syndrome but are not defined by it.
We want to introduce you to some amazing Special Olympics breaking down barriers every day:
Derek Baker, a social media sensation, is using his platform to give people a community where they can learn, feel welcomed, but most importantly, laugh.
Thea Weinert found a newfound level of confidence after becoming an honorary member of a collegiate-level gymnastic team.
Teacher, leader, and public speaker are only a few words to describe Brina Maxino. Brina faced many obstacles in early life, but she never gave up on her dream of being included.
Every day, Special Olympics athletes like Derek, Thea, and Brina are showing the world that there is no limit to what they can accomplish. And it’s supporters like you who help make their dreams possible. Thank you for being part of our movement to create a more inclusive world for everyone!
You’re the best,
Special Olympics
