Last week, at the end of my statewide tour, I announced an idea so big that it will require Californians to vote on it as a ballot measure in 2024.

I’m going to tell you what it is, and then I’m going to ask for your help to get it done. Here it is:

I announced an initiative that will fundamentally transform the mental health system in this state. It’s a plan to take people with acute mental illness and substance abuse problems out of the shadows, out of encampments and into longer-term housing and treatment facilities they need to get better.

This plan will create thousands of new beds, build more housing, expand services, and modernize the Mental Health Services Act.

The plan will save people’s lives. It will give peace of mind to their families. It will make our communities safer. No state has ever done anything at the level I am proposing. It is what we need to do to address the magnitude of this crisis statewide.

But I will need your help to get it done. This is a priority for me. I am asking for it to be a priority for you as well.

If you agree we need to get people with acute mental illness and substance abuse problems off the streets and into high-quality treatment facilities where they can get the care they need, I am asking you to contribute to my ballot measure committee today to help get it done.

Forget the cynics out there who say we can’t save all these folks. That’s just not true.

We know what it takes to get it done.

You know... this is one of those issues where we are truly all in it together.

There’s not a human being reading this message that can’t lay claim to this issue. Some of us more intimately than others.

But it impacts ALL OF US.

And we’re not going to be able to help fix it without ALL OF US getting involved to make it happen.

So if it seems worth it to you that we do something to address the scale and magnitude of this crisis.

If you believe we can get people the help we need and save lives.

Then I am asking you to contribute whatever you can afford today so we can pass this ballot measure and get it done.
