Wednesday marked 13 brutal years of conflict in Syria.
Children there have lived through displacement after displacement. Now, the impacts of last month’s devastating earthquakes — and the ongoing war — have left 5.3 million Syrians homeless.
6-year-old Dina* and 12-year-old Ahmad* were asleep when the shocks hit Aleppo.
Their father, Lutfi*, broke his back as he shielded them from the collapsing ceiling. The family spent four hours trapped under the rubble — until their cries for help were finally heard.
Dina, Ahmad and Lutfi escaped with nothing but their lives.
