Not one new oil well should be built in Alaska's Western Arctic.

That's why we're seeking an emergency order to stop the Willow project from breaking ground.

We went to court the day after the Biden administration turned its back on the wild.

Then we went to court again to stop the bulldozers in their tracks.

Willow will drill up to 199 oil wells. It will build hundreds of miles of ice roads, hundreds of miles of pipelines, an airstrip, and a gravel mine.

We can't let construction vehicles, gravel mining and blasting, and roads destroy this pristine place. Once massive projects like this begin, it gets much harder to reverse course.

The Western Arctic is the largest, most intact stretch of wilderness in the United States. It must be protected - not turned into on oilfield.

President Biden, like Trump before him, has failed to take into account the true cost of Willow.

Polar bears, who are already facing starvation, will be pushed closer to the brink. Caribou, seals, migratory birds and other species will also be harmed.

And the climate costs are staggering. Willow will pollute the climate with over 239 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions over 30 years — as much as nearly 2 million cars.

The Arctic is warming four times faster than the rest of the planet. The time is now to stop these kinds of drilling projects and fossil fuel extraction.

And it's not just Alaska. Last week we sued the U.S. Interior Department for ignoring our petition to phase out oil and gas extraction on all public lands.

It's time the feds start acting with the urgency that's desperately needed to confront the extinction and climate emergencies.
