** The One-Minute Meeting
------------------------------------------------------------
Whether or not Donald Trump is indicted and arrested today, contrary to what you may have heard and read, he would not be the first president or former president to be arrested. That title is held by Ulysses Grant. In today’s newsletter, I will tell the little-known story of how a Washington, D.C., cop arrested the sitting president for speeding his horse and buggy through D.C. streets, which Grant did repeatedly. It does not compare to the stuff Trump is facing but, as an old news director I worked for used to say, “facts are facts.”
Rent is rising across the country but apartments are shrinking in a lot of cities. You are getting less for more. The data compiled by RentCafe found, “The average size of new apartments in 2022 was 887 square feet — a 54 square-foot drop since 10 years ago. It was also the largest year-over-year decrease, down 30 square feet.” While apartments in New York City, Seattle and Detroit are shrinking, new apartments in Chicago and Minneapolis are a little bigger than they used to be.
Evictions are rising again. It may have to do with the rising price of rent. Pennsylvania, Virginia and Indiana are among the states with rising rates. This is the chart through last week in Pittsburgh, which is similar to many cities monitored by the Eviction Lab:

After some difficult years for the thoroughbred racing industry, new data indicates that racehorse fatalities are down by more than a third since 2009. Fatal injuries have reached their lowest point since data was compiled by the horse racing industry. I will point you toward the data from every reporting track in today’s newsletter as the prep races for the Kentucky Derby heat up this week.
