Dear Friend,

Trump’s Senate impeachment trial could be over by the end of THIS WEEK— without a single witness testifying.

That’s not a trial. It’s a cover-up.

But news just broke that could change everything: According to reports, a transcript of a book by former Trump National Security Advisory Advisor John Bolton confirms that Trump personally demanded the quid pro quo with Ukraine that is at the center of his impeachment.

Now Senators are facing massive pressure to call Bolton and other witnesses. It’s up to us to hold their feet to the fire.

Trump’s impeachment is one of the most consequential events for American democracy that we’ve ever seen. A full and fair trial—including witnesses—is essential for having any chance of a result that the public can have confidence in.

But Mitch McConnell won’t allow witnesses. He doesn’t want evidence or subpoenas. He’s even imposed draconian limits on media access to the trial.

To overcome McConnell’s stonewalling, Democrats need four Republican senators to join them and vote to call witnesses. After the latest revelations from John Bolton, key Republicans, including Susan Collins, Mitt Romney, Lamar Alexander, and Lisa Murkowski, are feeling major pressure.

No matter what Senate Republicans do, Common Dreams will continue reporting the facts to hold Trump accountable. We have no advertisers or corporate owners to tell us to what to report. We won’t be bullied by Mitch McConnell, Donald Trump, or anyone else. And we know we can count in you to stand with us.

Thank you for all you do,
