Folks —

I’ve always been a strong advocate for equality across race and gender. One of my personal heroes, Shirley Chisholm, represents both of these traits. It’s why I’m proud to be a co-sponsor of the Shirley Chisholm Congressional Gold Medal Act.

I’m going to tell you a little bit more about what inspires me the most about Shirley Chisholm. But first, I need to know: Can I count on you to sign on and become a Citizen Co-Sponsor of the Shirley Chisholm Congressional Gold Medal Act? [[link removed]]

Shirley Chisholm is a perfect example of what it looks like to be a trailblazer in our country. She was the first Black woman to serve in Congress, and the first woman and Black individual to run for President of the United States in 1972.

The Shirley Chisholm Congressional Gold Medal Act would award her with the honor posthumously, in recognition of her work to make space for women and Black people everywhere.

Awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to Shirley Chisholm would go a long way in acknowledging her tireless work for historically marginalized communities across the country.

It’s long overdue that we recognize the leadership and courage that Shirley Chisholm exhibited throughout her time in public office. This legislation is a perfect way to do that.

Will you add your name as a Citizen Co-Sponsor in support of the Shirley Chisholm Congressional Gold Medal Act? [[link removed]]
