Friend –

I’m Elissa Slotkin and I’m running for U.S. Senate in Michigan.

Here’s the bottom line: When citizens think our government works for big business and the wealthy instead of normal families, it's a threat to our democracy. In Congress, I’ve worked on changing that – both in legislation, but also in how I conduct my own campaign: That’s why I’m refusing all corporate PAC money.

And I’m so proud to receive the endorsement of End Citizens United.

I’m going to lay out more on why I’m running for the U.S. Senate, but if you’re ready to become a Founding Donor to our campaign right away, you can use this link to split a donation between our campaign and End Citizens United now:

So here’s why I’ve decided to run: We all know America is going through something right now. We seem to be living from crisis to crisis. But there are certain things that should be really simple:

Like living a middle-class life in the state that invented the middle class.

Like making things in America so that we’re in control of our own economic security.

Like protecting our children from the things that are truly harming them.

And preserving our rights and our democracy so that our kids can live their version of the American dream.

I’m running for Senate because I believe that we need a new generation of leaders that thinks differently, works harder and never forgets that we are public servants.

Because service is how I’ve spent my life: I spent my career protecting our homeland. After 9/11, I was recruited into the CIA and served three tours in Iraq alongside the U.S. military. I went on to serve under presidents of both parties in the White House, and then at the Pentagon.

But what motivated me to first run for elected office was my mom. She was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer in 2009 – and she didn’t have health insurance. She had let it lapse after the insurance companies had gouged her for years because she happened to have a preexisting condition. She passed away in 2011, but that experience – of desperately trying to get her care at the same moment we were filling out bankruptcy paperwork – helped shape my decision to run for office.

These experiences have shaped my time, my priorities and my approach to my four years in the U.S. House and continue to serve as my motivation to run for Senate.

My experience also impacts how I’ve run my campaigns. Before my first run in 2018, I made a decision to not accept any donations from corporate PACs, because I never wanted my constituents to question why I vote the way I do.

My campaign for the U.S. Senate will also refuse money from corporate PACs. Not a dime.

Some people might see it as a disadvantage, especially since Senate campaigns are notoriously expensive. But I know that we can win when we’re powered by real people, contributing what they can, when they can.

To be up front: Winning this race is going to take a lot of resources. A crazy amount. It’s also going to take a lot of work.

When you’re running to win a seat in a swing state like Michigan, you need to start building your war chest on day one. That’s why I’m hoping you’ll be moved to support this campaign today.

I would be honored if you would split a contribution between our campaign and End Citizens United today and become one of our first Founding Donors.

I *know* that our country is going to get through this time. It’s hard work, but that's what Michiganders have done for generations. It’s going to take engaged citizens and principled leaders. I’m grateful to know we’re in this together from the start. Thank you in advance for chipping in.

Onward!

Elissa

With the 2022 Election behind us, now the real work begins: we need a two-thirds vote in both the House and Senate to pass the Constitutional Amendment to overturn Citizens United.

We know we send a lot of emails. And you might be wondering why: We aren’t a SuperPAC. We’re not funded by corporate PACs. We spend EVERY DIME so efficiently by running proven effective ads to win the most competitive races, push to pass SWEEPING Campaign Finance Reform, and build our movement.

Friend, when we pass the Constitutional Amendment to overturn Citizens United, you’ll be able to say you helped make that happen.
