A bad idea has returned, Friend.
Thanks to many other great groups and members like you, we enjoyed
a short-lived victory at the end of last year when we defeated HJR6.
The bill called for a supermajority of 60% of voters change the Ohio
constitution.
Unfortunately, the bill has been reintroduced
and this time it’s even worse. HJR1 includes the supermajority
requirement; increases the number of counties that require petition
signatures from 44 to 88; and eliminates the 10-day "cure period" for
petitioners to make up deficits in any counties where they didn't
collect enough signatures.
HJR1 undermines the principle of one person, one vote
and removes our right to make needed changes to the Ohio Constitution
by a majority vote.
If you can’t make it to the rally,
please write your legislators or
watch the hearing on the Ohio Channel at 9 a.m. on
Wednesday, March 22.
Ohio Citizen Action endorses Shammas
Malik
We just announced our first endorsement of 2023, Shammas
Malik, who’s running for mayor in Akron. Mr. Malik’s
platform prioritizes climate action, including cutting carbon
emissions and transitioning to clean energy.
We will be knocking on doors
and talking with Akron voters in support of Malik’s
candidacy.
It's time for a new generation of leadership!
