Here are some updates from the last few days. |
Today, the parties in the pending U.S. Supreme Court case Moore v. Harper submitted additional briefing on whether the Court still has jurisdiction to hear the case. The parties' responses were split, with the United States and some of the pro-voting parties arguing the Court lacks jurisdiction while one of the pro-voting parties and the Republican legislators in the case argue the Court does have jurisdiction and should rule on the merits of the case. On Thursday, March 16, BABE VOTE — a youth voter engagement organization — and the League of Women Voters of Idaho filed a lawsuit in state court against House Bill 124, a newly enacted voter suppression law that eliminates the use of a student ID as an acceptable form of identification for in-person voting.

On Friday, March 10, Arkansas State Sen. Bryan King (R) and the League of Women Voters of Arkansas filed a lawsuit against Act 236, which makes it harder for ballot measures to qualify for the ballot.

Here’s what to expect coming up. |
Tomorrow, the U.S. Supreme Court will release decisions in pending cases. The Court could announce opinions in any of the cases that have already been argued, including the major voting rights cases Merrill v. Milligan and Moore v. Harper.
