Dem AGs like Josh Stein in North Carolina are fighting to shut down robocall operations.
Friend,
Picture this: You’re cooking dinner and suddenly your phone rings. It’s a number that doesn’t look familiar, but it has your same area code, so you pick it up because you think, “What if this is a family emergency?” Then you hear, “Hi, we’re calling to inform you that your auto warranty is about to expire.”
You’re confused because you don’t own a car. Wait, what’s that smell? It’s the veggies you were sautéing, now burning in the pan — and that’s when you realize: You’ve just been scammed.
Look, we’ve all been there! These nuisance robocalls have been such a part of all of our lives, and we want to hear from you on this topic.
Thankfully, Dem AGs like Josh Stein in North Carolina are fighting to shut down these operations.
According to AG Stein, a robocall operation blasted billions of illegal robocalls to people across the country. In 2019 and 2020 alone, they bombarded North Carolinians with more than 75 million robocalls, including more than 34 million calls to people whose numbers were on the Do Not Call Registry.
AG Stein sued the defendants in June 2020, and a court permanently banned them from initiating or facilitating any robocalls, working in or with companies that make robocalls, or engaging in any telemarketing.
As people who find scam robocalls a huge inconvenience in our own lives, this is exactly the kind of leadership we want to see from our state officials.
Democratic AGs truly are “The People’s Lawyers” and DAGA is the only party committee devoted to electing more of them. Since 2016, we’ve won two-thirds of our targeted races, and we can't stop now – will you chip in today?
