John,
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is threatening to remove yet ANOTHER
prosecutor from office because of her progressive policies. This time,
he’s attacking State Attorney Monique Worrell.
A man named Keith Moses killed three people in a mass shooting in late
February and Worrell’s office is rightfully pressing charges. But DeSantis
is claiming that she is somehow “negligent” because Moses wasn’t sent to
jail for a marijuana charge last year, even as DeSantis continues to
oppose gun control legislation that would actually keep people safe. And
now Worrell is speaking out:
“This isn’t about whether I follow the law, this isn’t about whether or
not my policies are a danger to public safety. This is about the governor
wanting to control the politics across this state. And quite frankly it’s
dangerous because this is a democracy not a dictatorship.”
This is no surprise from DeSantis, as he has been using his power to
remove top officials from office in Florida for bogus reasons. He accused
Tampa prosecutor Andrew Warren of being “soft on crime” because he signed
a letter saying that he wouldn’t use the resources of his office to focus
on prosecuting women for abortions. And then DeSantis suspended Warren and
handpicked someone to replace him, even though Warren was democratically
elected twice by the voters. Warren is still challenging the suspension in
court.
John, we can’t
allow DeSantis to continue abusing his power and removing democratically
elected leaders — rolling back all of the important work for justice and
accountability in Florida.
[ [link removed] ]We are going to need to band together and defend State Attorney
Monique Worrell from being suspended and removed from office by Governor
DeSantis. And it won’t be easy. Will you make a contribution today to help
us defend her? Worrell has done incredible work in Orange and Osceola
Counties as state attorney, and her removal would likely result in the
appointment of a conservative who would roll back all the work that’s been
done.

Monique Worrell won her election in 2020 with 66% of the vote, and she has
been working to follow through on her promises to reduce incarceration and
transform the system ever since.
Meanwhile, Governor DeSantis has been traveling around the country making
speeches in notable states in the past few weeks — a sign that he is
likely to run for president. And his dangerous candidacy will only
increase conservative, hateful rhetoric in this country.
If DeSantis wins and becomes president of the United States in 2024, his
model of abusing the law to remove progressive leaders and anyone who
disagrees with him could be implemented nationwide, putting ALL of our
work in danger.
The reality is that if we don’t get behind State Attorney Worrell,
DeSantis will continue to roll back our transformative work for justice in
Florida and potentially all across this country.
[ [link removed] ]We need to get together and rally behind Monique Worrell against these
threats from this GOP governor who wishes he was a dictator. Will you
pitch in right now to help us defend her and the work she’s done?
