Dear Neighbors,
Last Monday, the Minnesota Legislature celebrated ?Sovereignty Day at the Capitol [ [link removed] ], where we heard from all 11 of Minnesota?s Native American tribes and held educational presentations on a series of important issues to our native communities. I attended sessions on Cannabis and on the Environment and water resources. It was a great opportunity to hear from tribal leaders and make sure we are listening to their perspectives as we create legislation here in Saint Paul.

Providing Emergency Rental Assistance?
On Thursday night the House voted to invest in emergency rental assistance funding in response to an increase in evictions following the pandemic through the Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program. When we are faced with a multi-layered, long-term housing crisis, we must pursue both immediate and long-term solutions. This bill takes a huge step to address head-on the crisis and help keep folks in their homes. I?m proud to have voted Yes.
Free School Meals Becomes Law
Here in Minnesota, we value education and want to see every child succeed, but with 1 in 6 students trying to learn on an empty stomach we are not living up to those values. With our budget surplus, we have the resources to step up and provide the food security families need and the high-quality education our children deserve.?
The House recently voted to concur with the Senate to provide free school meals for Minnesota?s students. Every child deserves a world-class education, but academic performance suffers when students are hungry. House File 5 will feed children so they can concentrate in the classroom and achieve their dreams. I was proud to vote for this important bill that will feed Minnesota kids, slash grocery bills and help families save money.
Governor Walz has signed the bill and it is now law!

Women?s History Month
March is Women's History Month! Let?s use this month to remember and honor all of the amazing women who paved the way for us. There is still a lot of work we need to do to stand up for equal rights in Minnesota and I am committed to pursuing this important work at the Capitol.?
A couple of significant bills moving in the Minnesota House would expand insurance coverage for breast cancer diagnostics, enhance workplace protections for nursing mothers (which I authored), and more.?
