Just yesterday, an explosive new report from The New York Times revealed that former national security advisor John Bolton’s new book states that President Trump told him he wanted “to continue freezing $391 million in security assistance to Ukraine until officials there helped with investigations into Democrats including the Bidens,” directly contradicting Trump’s defense claims.1
This reporting only underscores the need for the senate impeachment trial to include new witnesses and underlying documents relevant to the articles of impeachment. If Senate Republicans continue to put party over country in a desperate attempt to cover-up the wrongdoing of Donald Trump, we must hold them accountable!
Even as the House impeachment managers were making their strong case to the senate last week, many Senate Republicans were simultaneously complaining about the supposed “lack of evidence” in the trial while continuing to oppose hearing from additional witnesses. And even still this morning there is resistance from the White House and congressional Republicans about whether to allow Bolton to testify, with one top Republican aide stating, “there is a sense in the Senate that if one witness is allowed, the floodgates are open.”2
